Outrigger Fiji Breaks Ground On New Project
SIGATOKA, FIJI – The first earth has been turned at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort’s latest community tourism project with General Manager Peter Hopgood getting on the business end of a shovel.
The ground breaking ceremony, which was blessed by local village Reverend Savenaca Roko, marked the beginning of construction of a kindergarten at Conua District School in Fiji’s lush Sigatoka Valley.
Also present at the ceremony were School Manager Atu Finau, kindergarten teacher Mrs Gounder who moved a vote of thanks to Mr Hopgood and the manager of activities at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort Kini Sarai.
The ceremony followed the completion of Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort’s first such project, the construction of a school bure or meeting hall at a cost of FJD100,000, which was officially opened by Outrigger’s Managing Director Asia Pacific, Mr. Darren Edmonstone in November 2015.
Mr Hopgood said the resort’s guests would be encouraged to lend a hand with the new project.
“The bure voluntourism project was enormously popular with guests and I have no doubt the building of the kindergarten will be just as enthusiastically supported as it allows both the resort and its guests to give something back to the people of Fiji,” he said.
The kindergarten project will be open for participation by resort guests on Tuesday and Thursday each week at a cost of FJD$100 adults and FJD$60 children which includes lunch, refreshments and a visit to the historic Tavuni Hill Fort.
