It was mission accomplished for Jeremiah Rafai to win for Fiji at the New Zealand Chefs Championship in Auckland last week.
The Hapmak, Rotuma native was the 2022 Young Chef of the Year and scooped a bronze medal alongside Fiji Chef of the Year, Akshay Goundar, during the Fine Foods New Zealand event.
Mr Rafai, 24, who has been a junior sous chef for the past five years, said “It was the first time for me to compete abroad and I did my best.”
He dedicated his win to the management and executives of the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort.
Mr Goundar, 29, echoed similar sentiments as he added another medal to his colourful career.
“It was a good experience because I learnt a lot and competed against the best in the business,” he said.
In 2016, he won the Fijian Junior Chef of the Year title during the Moffat Salon Culinaire. He is the junior chef at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the Coral Coast where he has worked since 2014.
